How to Detox Off of Opiates Using Methadone?
Question by cosmickicktomyhead: how to detox off of opiates using methadone?
I have been using buprenorphine street level 4 to 8 mills a day for 4 months and oxys when I cant get bupe. I wonder if I tapered off of all of it using methadone if that would be the way considering my body hasn
t had any. Like 10 mill, 5, mill, 2.5 mill , 2.5 mill done. Or would it make any difference. I was completely clean for 3 years , going to meetings daily and then you know what happened. I don’t have the option to detox in a detox setting without getting into details but I would like to know in a detox how they prescribe methodone to ease withdrawels when someone doesn
t want to stay on anything.

actually, you can detox with clonidine (a blood pressure drug) and valium, which works pretty well.
If you already have methadone, yes, you can taper yourself off of it as you mention, but would start the taper with lower equivalent dose to what you are currently using. This is difficult to do on your own, as I am sure you are aware. Go into the drugstore periodically, check your blood pressure, make sure it is reasonably okay as you taper.
Good luck to you.
