Question by Nick: Are you drug tested for a Class 3 Medical/Private Pilot’s License?
I had the privilege of going on a Discovery flight as an 18th birthday present and I want to get my private pilots license. Before I begin: I am NOT going to fly high (no pun intended), and I am NOT dependent on any drug.
I haven’t been getting any straight answers, it’s all been yes and no. I want to ask:
1. Is there a drug test when I go to get my Class 3 Medical before I start taking lessons?
2. Are there random drug tests while I am a student pilot or a private pilot?
I am aware that commercial pilots are tested, and I know you’re tested if you have an accident, and I know you can be tested if the FAA suspects you are a drug user. I want to get my license before I start up college and that kinda requires me going for the license now. So please, tell me with a straight yes or no. I would prefer flight students or private pilots answer this question, or people with firsthand experience with the test. Also, for the love of God, don’t give me a lecture on “how bad drugs are.”

You do not even know what effects it can have on you…

no, there is no drug test. you will need to provide a urine sample, but it’s for diabetes.
anybody who feels the need to even ask this question should reconsider their priorities.
