The Salvation Army Drug and Rehabilitation Program
The Salvation Army Drug and Rehabilitation Program – This was created for a Community Service Project for Debate at my school. Currently, a huge number of people face problems with things such as addictions with drugs and alcohol. According to PeaceHealth, there are over 100000 deaths from alcohol abuse in the United States and Canada and alcohol is the most commonly abused drug by children ages 12-17. It’s not just alcohol though. Currently, approximately 40% of adults will use an illegal drug at some times during their lives which does NOT include alcohol OR prescription drugs. Approximately one-half of all high school seniors admit to having used alcohol or an illegal drug. The Salvation Army Drug and Rehabilitation Program was established in 1881 when William Booth opened shelters for homeless people. This quickly spread into what is now the Salvation Army. The Drug and Rehabilitation Program seeks to provide a clean and healthy living environment with good food, work therapy, group and individual counseling, and spiritual direction to try and assist a person to develop life skills so they can be returned to society as a better person. This program has already helped 340258 people and has 156 Rehabilitation Centers in the US. I hope that through this, at the very least, will open some people’s eyes to the many troubles that that a drug abuser has, but although there will be many problems. Through guidance and direction, they can recover and change for the better.
